The client, Frank De La Roche, a noted sculptor, wanted to adapt a San Francisco concept to a sloping lot with a creek and power lines crossing at awkward points. Future expansion had to be planned, and adequate parking.
The result is, as you see it with the house, an extension of the artist's work and a reflection of his attention to detail.
